GENERAL COFFEE QUESTIONS

What is ground coffee? Ground coffee is roasted coffee that has been milled into smaller particles ready for brewing. The grind size determines how the water flows through the coffee and directly affects the flavour, strength and character of your cup. Different brewing methods require different grind sizes — which is why we offer three grind options with every order.

What is instant coffee? Instant coffee is pre-brewed coffee that has been dehydrated into granules or powder. It dissolves in hot water but bears little resemblance to freshly roasted and ground coffee in terms of flavour, aroma or quality. Estate Monkeys does not sell instant coffee — everything we offer is freshly roasted, single origin Coorg Arabica.

What is single origin coffee? Single origin coffee comes from a specific geographic region — a country, a district or a single estate. This allows the unique character of that region to come through in every cup, offering a flavour experience that blended coffees cannot replicate.

What is single estate coffee? Single estate coffee takes single origin a step further. It refers to coffee grown and processed on one specific estate — offering the most detailed traceability and the most distinct expression of a particular land, soil and growing condition. Our Arabica Estate collection is exactly this.

What is GI tagged coffee? A GI — or Geographical Indication — tag is a certification that guarantees a product originates from a specific region known for its unique qualities. Coorg Arabica is one of India's most celebrated GI tagged coffees, recognised for its exceptional flavour, shade-grown cultivation and high altitude growing conditions. When you buy GI tagged coffee from us, you are buying the real thing — traceable, certified and uncompromised.

What are roast levels and how do they affect the coffee? Roasting transforms green coffee beans into the aromatic, flavour-rich beans you brew with. The level of roast dramatically changes what ends up in your cup:

  • Light roast — bright, fruit-forward and acidic. The origin character of the bean shines through most clearly.
  • Medium roast — balanced body, sweetness and acidity. The most versatile roast for most brewing methods.
  • Dark roast — bold, rich and full-bodied with deeper, more intense flavours. Lower acidity, heavier body.

Every coffee in our range is roasted to the profile that best honours its character — not the most popular profile, but the right one.

What are coffee flavour notes? Flavour notes are descriptive terms used to identify the taste profile of a specific coffee. They arise from the natural compounds in the bean, shaped by the origin, processing method, roast level and brewing method. You will find tasting notes listed on every Estate Monkeys product page to help you choose the right coffee for your palate.

How do I choose the right grind size? We have made this simple. We offer three grind options with every order:

  • Fine grind — for espresso machines, moka pot, south Indian filter and coffee filter
  • Medium grind — for pour over, aeropress and drip coffee
  • Coarse grind — for French press and cold brew
  • Roasted beans — if you prefer to grind fresh at home

Choose based on your brewing equipment and we will grind it to the right size before packing.

How should I store my coffee? Store your coffee in a cool, dark cupboard in an airtight container away from heat, light and moisture. All Estate Monkeys coffee comes in a sealed pouch with a one way valve — keep it sealed until ready to use and store in a cupboard after opening.

Do not store coffee in the refrigerator. The humidity and odours in a fridge will damage the flavour.

Can I store coffee in the refrigerator? No. The fridge is too humid and absorbs surrounding odours, both of which damage coffee flavour significantly. A cool, dark cupboard in an airtight container is always the right choice.

How long does coffee stay fresh after roasting? Whole beans are at their peak between 7 and 21 days after the roast date and remain usable for up to 3 months if stored properly. Ground coffee loses freshness faster — aim to use it within 1 to 2 weeks of opening for the best flavour. This is why we roast to order — so your coffee arrives as fresh as possible.

How long does coffee stay fresh after opening?

  • Whole roasted beans — 1 to 3 weeks after opening
  • Ground coffee — best used within 1 to 2 weeks of opening

Store in an airtight container in a cool, dark place to preserve freshness for as long as possible.

How do I brew coffee at home? This depends on your brewing equipment and grind size. When placing your order, select the grind size that matches your equipment and we will prepare it accordingly. If you are unsure which grind to choose, refer to the grind size guide above or contact us at info@estatemonkeys.com and we will help you find the right option.

QUESTIONS ABOUT ESTATE MONKEYS COFFEE

Why should I order Estate Monkeys coffee? Every bag of Estate Monkeys coffee is single origin, GI tagged Coorg Arabica — sourced from trusted estates, roasted to order in small batches on our estate and packed fresh before it reaches you. No warehousing, no middlemen, no compromise. The coffee you receive is days old at most — and that freshness is something you will taste in every cup.

Where are your coffee beans sourced from? All our coffee is single origin, sourced exclusively from Coorg. Depending on the collection, beans are sourced directly from named estates in Coorg or procured as graded coffees from trusted curing works — including Mysore Nuggets, Arabica Peaberry Bold and Arabica Cherry AAA. Every bag carries the origin, grade and batch number for full traceability.

What collections do you offer? Our coffee range is organised into three Arabica collections:

  • Arabica Classic — India's finest individually graded coffees. Mysore Nuggets, Peaberry Bold and Arabica Cherry AAA, each roasted to honour its distinct character.
  • Arabica Select — where GI tagged Coorg Arabica meets the finest graded coffees. Every blend a carefully considered union of origin, grade and craft.
  • Arabica Estate — GI tagged and single estate Coorg coffee from two named estates. The most traceable and terroir-driven expression of Coorg Arabica.

We also offer the ArRo Series — handcrafted blends created through extensive testing and tasting by our master roaster.

What are drip bags? Drip bags are single serve pour over bags that require no equipment — just hot water. Each drip bag contains a measured amount of freshly ground Estate Monkeys coffee sealed in a filter bag that sits over your cup. Pour hot water through and your coffee is ready. They are available separately and are the easiest way to experience Estate Monkeys coffee anywhere, anytime.

What grind sizes do you offer? We offer four options with every order:

  • Fine grind — espresso machines, moka pot, south Indian filter, coffee filter
  • Medium grind — pour over, aeropress, drip coffee
  • Coarse grind — French press, cold brew
  • Roasted beans — for those who prefer to grind fresh at home

What makes your coffee taste so fresh? Every order is roasted to order — we do not roast in advance or hold stock. Your coffee is roasted, rested for a few hours and packed fresh on our estate before being shipped directly to you. Each pouch is sealed with a one way valve that releases gases from the freshly roasted beans while keeping air out — preserving freshness from our estate to your cup.

What is made to order and why does it matter? Made to order means we only roast your coffee when you place your order. No pre-roasted stock, no sitting on shelves, no compromise on freshness. It also means you can choose your grind size so your coffee is prepared exactly for your brewing method — personalised from the moment you order.

How long does it take to process and receive my order? Orders are processed within 1 to 2 business days. Once dispatched, estimated delivery timeframes are:

  • Metro cities — 2 to 3 business days
  • All other locations — within 7 business days

You will receive a tracking number via email or SMS once your order is dispatched.

Can I track my order? Yes. Once your order is dispatched, a tracking number and link will be shared with you via email. We ship via Shiprocket, Amazon Logistics and India Post.

What packaging do you use? Every Estate Monkeys order arrives in a sealed pouch with a one way valve, packed inside a box. The one way valve allows gases from freshly roasted beans to escape while preventing air from entering — keeping your coffee fresh from the moment it is packed to the moment you open it.

I don't have any brewing equipment. Can I still order? Yes — our drip bags are designed exactly for this. No equipment needed, just hot water. Order them separately and experience Estate Monkeys coffee anywhere, without any brewing setup.
